New York marked the end of our trip across the United States Of America. A bitter sweet ending to a trip that without a doubt changed our lives. I’m not even sure what to write, if I’m honest, I actually feel quite sad, the kind of sadness only felt at the conclusion of a great journey or adventure. It’s an emptiness that soon becomes fullness, a depression that soon becomes joyful laughter. A horrible dread that becomes a fond memory.

I believe this strange phenomena is one of the fundamental reasons we long for great adventures.

In Washington DC we stayed with Dick, an older fellow who once lived in New York City. Dick told us that ‘New York is not America, it’s a country within itself…’. It was only when we arrived and began to roam the streets that we could fully understand what Dick had said. New York is a city unto itself, with a heartbeat, a pulse of it’s own.

In an effort to spare you my clumsy words, I’ll let the photos do the talking. These are the first of many more to come.

We’ve had a few requests to make this hand-lettered, New York piece available as a print. The good news…it is! I took this photo from the top of the Empire State Building and created the lettering right here in my Moleskine (with my bare hands!)
You can score a print here.
